What is a Double Wall Corrugated Box?
Regular boxes aren’t always appropriate for fragile and expensive items, or when high volumes are to be shipped, which is why double-wall corrugated boxes would be used. Double wall is actually two layers of wavy fluting bonded together in the middle, between three flat linerboard sheets, versus one layer of fluting between two flat sheets for a standard single-wall box. This construction offers an extra layer of protection, meaning that your box receives ‘one more dimension to help it breathe’, and will not be knocked during transport.
Main Advantages Of Enhancing Your Packaging
Double-wall construction has many unique benefits for businesses that must go through arduous shipping cycles:
- Better Stacking Strength: With two flutes, these boxes can carry much more weight and do not collapse while loaded onto a pallet in a warehouse.
- Improved Puncture Resistance: Additional layers of thick fiberboard make it almost impossible for sharp objects or rough handling to penetrate into your product.
- Great shock absorbance: The internal air pockets of the two layers of fluting serve as a natural cushion, absorbing vibrations and blows from rough roads.
- Cost-Effective Protection: They are heavier than single-wall options, but cut down on product damage and replacements.
Ideal Applications for Heavy-Duty Boxes
Not every product needs the most reinforcement that is possible, but some industries are based around this heavy-duty design. A double-wall box is a standard in the industry to ship oversize products such as electronics, automotive parts, industrial machinery, and fragile glass. It is also particularly suitable for international shipping, as the packages have to pass through many transit hubs, repeatedly being sorted and subjected to significant variations in the environment.
Engineering Custom Protection
Boxo Packaging structures can be catered to any specific requirements of the industry. Manufacturers can layer various flute styles, combining a robust cushioning “A” flute with super dense “B” flutes that provide puncture resistance, to provide the balance of strength and surface smoothness for custom branding, addressing high-quality printing.
